The client company sought planning consent for an opencast proposal in an area where the industry was unpopular. The poor restoration of a former surface mine in the area had damaged the image of the industry, which presented an additional communications challenge.

Result

When recommending the application for approval, the Head of Planning for the determining authority described the communications campaign as ‘setting the standard for all future applications’ in the council’s area.
