Jennings Nicholson was assigned to support new proposals for a Country Park, with a facilitating B1/B8 development, on a derelict former colliery site. The site had been the subject of several unsuccessful attempts to create a regional waste management park and had remained unused and un-restored for over 15 years.

Result

Following a sustained and meaningful communications strategy, the opinion of the local community and their elected representatives was harnessed to generate overwhelming support for the scheme. Planning permission was granted by the Borough Council at the first hearing. As a departure from the Local Plan, the scheme was called in by the DCLG Secretary of State, and subsequently approved.
